Learning Over the Holidays December 12, 2006

Read this post by Clark Aldrich over at the ASTD Learning Circuits blog and it started me thinking about what I’ll be looking to learn during the downtime of the holidays.  There was a time when the holidays meant getting some well deserved rest.  Of course I still believed in Santa then too.

Now it’s a great time of year to stock up on a few books, explore newer technologies and newer thinking.  On the e-Learning front, my focus will be on design, gaming/simulations and social networking technologies.

Books to read will be the Wisdom of Crowds, Designing Interactions and Got Game: How the Gamer Generation is Reshaping Business Forever.  I’ll be doing deeper dives into the wilderness of the Learning Wiki to see if any new jewels are there.  I’ll also be exploring how leverage Moodle more both internally and externally and start adding more customizations to take advantage of it’s open source platform.

This topic relates to an interview question I like to ask – “What is the next thing you need to learn?”  The premise here is that there is always a continual learning process going on.  Would love to know what’s on peoples to-learn lists for the new year.
